Lisbon Bakery and Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Lisbon Bakery and Restaurant in the heart of Plymouth feels like slipping into a warmly lit corner of a beloved neighborhood, where the day moves at its own gentle pace. The aroma of freshly baked pastries mingles effortlessly with the comforting scent of brewing coffee, inviting you to pause and savor the moment. It’s a space where the chatter of welcoming staff and the soft hum of friendly conversations create an inviting backdrop—a place that balances a bustling lunchtime energy with a calm, unhurried charm.
Here, breakfasts stretch into early afternoons with the ease of time well spent, whether you’re drawn to a perfectly layered pastel de nata or the quiet pleasure of a custard tarta. There’s a thoughtful simplicity in how traditional Portuguese flavors lace the menu, pairing beautifully with familiar comforts like a full English breakfast or a scone warmed just right. Regulars seem to appreciate the honest warmth in every bite, where fresh ingredients and home-style cooking come through plainly, never overwhelming but always satisfying.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is naturally convivial without being loud, a reflection of attentive, approachable service that makes you feel seen, not rushed. There’s a sincere joy in the way dishes arrive–from the crispness of grilled fish accented simply by a squeeze of lemon, to the tender grilled chicken dressed in garlic and lemon and served up alongside fresh salad and fragrant rice. Those who linger often find themselves caught up in pleasant moments of connection, sharing plates, stories, and quiet smiles.
At Lisbon Bakery and Restaurant, exploring Portuguese flavors feels less like discovery and more like a gentle homecoming. The space invites guests to settle in, savor a well-made coffee or a glass of local wine, and find delight in small, thoughtful details—whether that’s a crispy bitoque or a delicate shrimp omelette. It’s a place that welcomes both the casual breakfast visitor and the curious explorer seeking honest, heartfelt food and a welcoming table.

If there was ever a textbook definition of a perfect fish, the grilled bream here would be it! The skin was so crispy, and the simplicity of lemon and salt really allowed the fish’s flavour to stand out. We also ordered the bitoque and I LOVED the rice. It was very fragrant and flavourful, while the steak was covered in a creamy and slightly sour sauce. Normally I don’t like sour flavours that much but this sauce had just the right amount! I don’t know why but I couldn’t stop eating the fries as well! The temperature inside was a bit hot but there’s outdoor seats which would be cooler. The environment and decor was very comfortable though, and it seems like a place where locals frequent. I really liked the giant palmier from the bakery and I’ll have to come back with an empty stomach to try the rest of the baked goods! I also loved that there’s a little grocery area because I’ve never tried Portuguese drinks before and I was able to buy some juice to bring home!

Enjoyed coffee and custard slice here with a friend last Saturday. The coffee was lovely and hot. There is a fantastic selection of cakes and pastries. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Lisbon has a great vibe about it and was busy. If you are in the vicinity give it a try, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back when we are in Plymouth.

Lovely breakfast, coffee and cakes. Very reasonably priced. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. The menu shows a good variety of dishes for lunch so I'll be back to try some of those!

We stopped for coffee and pastry and it was very difficult to make a choice amongst so many delicious treats in the counter! What a lovely gem in Plymouth with authentic and proper Portuguese sweets and pastries. Everything was yummy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

Lovely restaurant with great menu choices. Very attentive staff with swift service and very generous portions. Cakes too tempting but we took some away for later. Highly recommend.
